How a code is used
A builder is any person, group or organization that passes its users' orders on to Polymarket. Its code is a 32-byte hex string, copied from the builder's Polymarket settings and put into the order before the user signs it. Codes are public identifiers. Volume is credited for every matched trade that carries the code, and an order that has not matched does not appear in builder trade results.
Builder fees on prediction markets
Builder fees are flat percentages of the trade value, which each builder sets within limits that Polymarket enforces. A new profile starts at 0%, and the highest rates are 1% on taker orders and 0.5% on maker orders. Rate changes are paced: one change per 7 days, taking effect 3 days after being scheduled. Builder profiles and fee rates are publicly queryable.
Builder fees are an extra layer: they stack on top of platform fees and never replace them. On a market with no platform fee, an order that carries a builder code pays the builder fee only. Polymarket can switch off a builder code at any time, and the fees guide shows how a builder fee sits next to the taker and maker fees.
