The timeline
The table follows the changelog, oldest entry first, and restates each entry in our own words. The date is the changelog's label; where a change took effect on another day or hour, the row says so. TWAP is a time-weighted average price, CLOB the central limit order book, RTDS the older Real-Time Data Socket feed, pUSD Polymarket USD, and SDK a software development kit.
| Date | Change |
|---|---|
| Jan 5, 2026 | Taker fees and daily maker rebates start on 15-minute crypto markets; the changelog gives the fee peak as 1.56% at a 50% probability. |
| Feb 12, 2026 | 5-minute crypto markets launch with taker fees from the start, on the same fee curve as the 15-minute markets. |
| Mar 1, 2026 | Announced: from Mar 6, taker fees and maker rebates apply to all crypto markets, including the hourly, 4-hour, daily and weekly ones, but only for markets created after that date. |
| Mar 30, 2026 | Fee Structure V2 gives ten fee categories their own rates, crypto among them; geopolitical and world events markets stay fee-free. |
| Mar 31, 2026 | For API users, fees are to be calculated from each market's feeSchedule object. |
| Apr 17, 2026 | CLOB V2 upgrade announced: new exchange contracts, a rewritten backend and pUSD as collateral, with about an hour of downtime. |
| Apr 28, 2026 | CLOB V2 goes live on the standard host; V1 SDKs and V1-signed orders stop working, and resting orders from before the cutover do not carry over. |
| Aug 7, 2026 | Crypto up/down markets settle on Chainlink TWAPs instead of a single price snapshot. Lookback: 30 seconds for 5-minute markets, 60 seconds for 15-minute and 4-hour markets. |
| Aug 14, 2026 | 5-minute markets move to a 60-second lookback at 00:00 UTC, replacing the 30-second window of Aug 7. |
| Aug 17, 2026 | The taker delay on crypto markets falls from 250 ms to 50 ms, from 11:00 UTC (7:00 AM Eastern). |
| Sep 4, 2026 | The taker delay on crypto markets rises from 50 ms to 150 ms, from 14:00 UTC (10:00 AM Eastern). |
| Sep 15, 2026 | PolyBolt launches: one WebSocket for licensed crypto and equity reference prices plus Chainlink TWAPs, needing CLOB API credentials; RTDS is now legacy for reference prices. |
| Sep 29, 2026 | PolyBolt payloads start naming the data vendor in a source field, and zecusd joins the crypto TWAP channel. |
| Oct 2, 2026 | On the spot crypto channel, Chainlink becomes the default source for every symbol, and most symbols can also be pinned to Pyth. |
Rule changes that affect Polymarket crypto markets in 2026 (official changelog). Source: docs.polymarket.com/changelog/predictions, checked .
The changelog records announcements, not specifications, and an entry can leave things unsaid: the lookback entries, for example, name three durations and no others. The rule pages describe how the rules work but can lag behind it, and the guide to Up/Down markets shows how the pieces fit.
What the changes meant for short windows
Fees spread outward (Jan 5 to Mar 30)
Taker fees started on the 15-minute markets, came with the 5-minute launch in February, and on Mar 6 spread to all crypto markets, including the 1H, 4H, daily and weekly ones, though only markets created after March 6 are affected. Fee Structure V2 on Mar 30 then introduced per-category rates. In today's table crypto has the highest feeRate, 0.07, with a maker rebate share of 20%.
Watch the unit. The January and February entries give the fee peak as a percentage (1.56% at a price of 50 cents), while today's fee page gives dollars for 100 shares ($1.75). The same page lists a trade value of 50 dollars for that trade, which makes the fee 3.5% of trade value, and the changelog does not say whether its percentage used that base. Use the fee calculator for the present rule.
Settlement moved from a snapshot to an average (Aug 7 and Aug 14)
The changelog says crypto up/down markets were settled from a single price snapshot until Aug 7 and from Chainlink averages since, and it names three durations. With averages over a lookback window the result no longer hangs on one reading, and because each second counts equally, a longer lookback gives each second a smaller share. The Aug 14 entry doubled the 5-minute lookback, from a 30-second window to a 60-second one, after one week, while the other two named durations had the longer window from the first day. Neither entry says what hourly or daily markets use.
The taker delay moved twice (Aug 17 and Sep 4)
The hold on a marketable crypto order went from 250 ms to 50 ms on Aug 17 and up to 150 ms on Sep 4, so the middle figure lasted a little over two and a half weeks. While an order is held it is pending and cannot be canceled. The entries give the hour of each change but no reason. A tool that hard-coded one of the three figures was wrong for the other two periods.
The April upgrade: new plumbing and a one-time reset (Apr 17 and Apr 28)
CLOB V2 brought pUSD as the collateral token and a new order format. As for the collateral switch, Polymarket's pUSD page says day to day, nothing changes. The cutover still reached every user: the Apr 17 notice planned about an hour of downtime, and orders resting before the cutover did not carry over. Code that signed V1 orders had more to do, because V1-signed orders stopped working.
Price data got new homes (Sep 15, Sep 29 and Oct 2)
These three entries concern people who read prices by code, but the lesson is general: the series you watch need not be the series that settles the market. For TWAP-settled markets the settlement series is the Chainlink TWAP, and the channel that streams it is Chainlink only. The spot channel became Chainlink-first on Oct 2 and can be pinned to another vendor, and Polymarket's documentation warns that the vendor behind a symbol can change from one connection to the next.
Why copies of the rules go stale
Seven of the entries above fall between Aug 7 and Oct 2, a span of eight weeks. A page that was right on Aug 10 gives the shorter lookback for 5-minute markets, one that was right on Sep 1 gives the middle taker delay, and one that was right on Sep 20 knows nothing of the Oct 2 default source. Each looks plausible and none carries a warning.
Polymarket's own pages drift too. As of Oct 19, 2026 the Order Lifecycle page states 250 ms for the crypto taker delay, while the latest changelog entry on the delay says 150 ms, so the two cannot both be current. Third-party copies keep whichever version their author read, and a copy that states no date cannot be placed against these entries. That is why every guide here shows the day its rules were compared with the documentation.
How to follow the changes
The Predictions changelog at docs.polymarket.com/changelog/predictions is the primary record. Entries are dated and newest first, and most labels say what changed, but not all: the Sep 4 delay change sits inside an entry titled Data API v2 release, so read whole entries. Of the pages cited here, only the changelog gives lookbacks by duration and the current crypto taker delay, and the rule pages can lag. Perps has its own changelog, and docs.polymarket.com/llms.txt lists every documentation page.
What to re-check before you trade a short window
- The market's own rules. The Resolution page says that the title states the question, but the rules decide how it resolves. Look up the source the market names, its tie rule and its duration.
- The lookback for that duration. The changelog states it for 5-minute, 15-minute and 4-hour markets only.
- The taker delay. Check whether your market has it, and remember that two pages give different figures.
- The fee. Use the fee parameters of the market and the date on any table you copy a rate from.
- Any other page. Look for a "checked" date; a copy without one may describe an earlier rule.
- If you use code. Re-read the source field after every reconnect, and note that V1-signed orders no longer work.
Trading short windows carries a risk of loss; the risk disclosure explains it in full.
